The new additions to the left do not dominate the original house or landscape. Essex Farmhouse The completed project included a squash court, exercise room, recreational room and boat and water sport storage. The program also required a new kitchen, family room and additional bedroom space. I made these additions following a model used by many early New England builders. As needs increased successive additions would be added to the farmhouse. In this case a new barn is housing a squashcourt, exercise facility, bunk room, bath for six people and three bedrooms. Smaller connecting additions house the new kitchen and family room. Essex Farmhouse This modest New England farmhouse located on the Essex River, Essex, Mass. was purchased by a young family with four boys. This two bedroom house was woefully inadequate for an active family. The challenge was to add their requirements to the existing house without destroying the integrity of the original Greek Revival design. |
