The Moorings, circa 2001 Originally built as Barn House by Roberts and Hoare, the scale and simplicity of this structure was typical of the first shingled cottages built in Manchester in the late 19th century. The Moorings As Manchester-by-the-Sea’s popularity grew, buildings became larger and more complex to accommodate additional guests and a staff to serve them. Barn House was enlarged in the now popular Colonial Revival style and renamed, The Moorings. The Moorings View of The Moorings from Manchester harbor. The Moorings Most of The Moorings was demolished in the 1970’s. This basic box was all that remained. The Moorings We designed the recreation of The Moorings to accommodate the needs of a modern family. The construction process was featured on a 26 episode series of This Old House on PBS in 2001.
