Norton's Point, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts
Norton's Point was a center for boat building in the early 1800's. By the turn of the century, it was developed by Roberts and Hoare into a private enclave comprised of four Shingle Style cottages. Although few of the original homes exist today, Cottage House pay homage to their legacy. Inspired by the natural beauty of Norton's Point, Stephen Roberts Holt designed Cottage House to work in harmony with the features of the site. The structure weaves along the water's edge following the shape of the harbor and the dark shingles and organic stone work enhance the surrounding landscape.
