Seaside #1 This building was first constructed in 1885 to house the town’s first horse-drawn fire engine. Stick Style Guest Cottage This pool house and guest cottage was designed to fit into the landscaped garden of one of the oldest summer houses in Manchester. Seacroft Pool House A pool house and guest cottage with attached conservatory. Cottage by-the-Sea Saltwater Barn This early 20th century fishermen’s barn is located on a saltwater marsh facing a sandy cove. Its owner wanted to use it as a guest cottage. However, its rehabilitation required considerable work, as it had begun to sink into the marsh. Piles were driven into the humus sixty feet before hitting bedrock. Once stabilized, the barn and its interiors were redesigned using traditional details. Small Projects Small projects can be stand-alone buildings or a part of a larger architectural composition. Whatever the size, they address basic human responses to scale and beauty. There is a freedom in small projects that allows for design innovation and spontaneity. As new construction, the small house addresses the fundamental need for shelter and security. In an addition, an inspired design can transform an average dwelling into one that is unified and complete. We enjoy small projects because of the immediacy of their design and construction. Harbor Cottages Guest house and art studio located at the water’s edge. Designed to look like fisherman’s barns, they function as auxiliary buildings to the main house. The terrace was constructed to look like a dock.
